Anna Paquin was born in the city of Winnipeg, but was raised in Wellington. She was the first actress to make her acting debut in Flora McGrath, The romantic-drama film The Piano. Paquin who was born in Wellington but born and raised in Winnipeg was first seen in the acting world on screen in The Piano. At age 11 she was an infant Academy Award winner ever for Best Actress. When she answered an open call for auditions, she won the role in the role of Flora McGrath, the daughter of a deaf Scottish piano player who moved to New Zealand in mid-19th-century to marry. It was her first role at the age of nine and had no previous experience as an actor. The actress moved from New Zealand to United States as a teen. Paquin was in a brief role as the title character when she was just a young girl as part of Franco Zeffirelli's Jane Eyre (1996) as well as a lead part in the movie Fly Away Home (1996). Paquin portrayed Frankie Addams as a child in the TV adaptation of Carson McCullers novel The Member of the Wedding. Paquin played Queen of Spain in Steven Spielberg's 1997 feature film Amistad. She played teenagers as part of Hurlyburly (1998), She's All That (2000), A Walk on the Moon (2000) and played in the role of polexia Aphrodisa groupie on the screen in Almost Famous (2000).
