Nathalie Emmanuel

 Nathalie Joanne Emmanuel (born 2 March 1989) is an English actress. Emmanuel began her acting career with theatre in late 1990s. In the following years she was offered roles in various West End productions including The Lion King. She started her acting career in 2006 , playing Sasha Valentine, a soap opera. Then she was cast on various British TV shows and the sequel Maze Runner. Her mother is Dominican. Her father is half-Saint Lucian and half English. She has an older sibling. Emmanuel recalls how her mom was the first person to recognize her passion for acting when she attended St Hilda's School. It closed in 2014. The Westcliff High School For Girls Grammar school followed. In an interview with The New York Daily News, she revealed, "When my mom was three, she would always be the center of attention, so she decided that maybe I could channel her energy properly. So I began studying acting, singing and dancing classes." At the age of 10 she was in Young Nala in the West End's version of The Lion King. Then she was chosen to play Missandei in HBO's fantasy drama Game of Thrones. In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel, she confirmed that she had received the news about her winning the role while she was employed at a store selling clothes as a shop assistant. Emmanuel was promoted to a regular cast member of the show in the year 2015. Missandei was the only major female character on the show was a person of colour. The scene where she died in chains was disregarded by the fans. It was also called an example fodging and evoking images of slavery. Emmanuel later stated to The Guardian: The response to the death of Missandei was overwhelming because she was not alone. I'm convinced that many who felt excluded or marginalized loved Missandei and felt represented in her. It was so hard for many to watch her gone, particularly when it was done in the manner that she was treated. This is how they're going take the one woman of colour
